Riot character artists face the unique challenge of translating 2D character designs into a 3D space, creating—and sometimes inventing—a character’s anatomy. Masters of proportion, likeness, and readability, character artists are tasked with ensuring that even a tiny figure is not only a believable form, but that it also captures the character’s fantasy.

As a Character Artist on the Consumer Products team at Riot, you will bring champions to life by crafting and texturing high poly and low poly models. You will help build some of the most iconic characters in the world of gaming. Your sculpting skills, artistic eye and understanding of anatomy, form, and color will lead the way in character creation. Working within both technical and design constraints, you will use your knowledge of proportions, anatomy and readability to ensure game models are optimized for physical products.


  • Manage all aspects of prototype creation for toys & collectibles from concept through molding and casting
  • Create 3D assets ranging from humanoid to creatures
  • Understand material requirements to create assets optimized for physical product and production
  • Interpret concept designs while taking into account technical and design constraints 
  • Use your strong sense of human/creature anatomy to push character quality to its fullest potential
  • Support other character artists with product development.  Give and receive constructive, creative feedback
  • Help advocate for process/tech improvements for the Art discipline at Riot
  • Ability to manage and work within product development timelines and deadlines

Required Qualifications: 

  • Experience working with modeling, sculpting, UV and texturing programs such as Maya, Zbrush, and Photoshop (4+ years)
  • 4+ years experience modeling for physical merchandise for a consumer products business
  • Proficient understanding of low poly and high poly sculpting
  • Traditional fine art skills with a deep understanding of human anatomy, form and color theory
  • Understanding of posing characters, gestures and proportion, ability to maintain likeness and expression
  • Problem solving new product creation, production and sculpting issues

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working with Rendering/colorization and Maya sizing/scale output for print prototypes tooling pipeline
  • Understanding of 3D printing processes and ability to work with in-house printers for prototyping
  • Ability to create figures ranging from stylistic to realistic  
  • Experience mentoring junior artists
  • Master of efficiency with the ability to refine and improve workflow
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Passionate about collectibles and figure development
