As the Art Manager, you will use your experience to help shape our culture and guide the careers of those in the art department, help them grow in their craft, and be a positive influence for them daily so Sledgehammer Games Australia will be where people come to do the best work of their careers.

This role is anticipated to be assigned as a hybrid work model position, with some work on-site at an Activision Blizzard office and some work remote.

  • Partner with the Art Director and Art Leads to manage individuals and leadership structure within the department.
  • Conduct regular one on ones with artists where you will mentor them and help them handle their career path.
  • Promote, contribute to, and participate in a culture of inclusion and diversity across the entire company.
  • Performance reviews and coaching for the team.
  • Coordinate with other game team’s Department Managers for process improvements.

Expected skills:

  • Direct experience of the Artist career path from entry level through to senior individual contributor.
  • Direct experience of several production cycles within a creative environment (this could be games, film, animation, VFX or related production environments).
  • Extensive people management and team building experience.
  • Able to handle a wide range of personnel issues including recruitment, career development, performance management, and conflict resolution.
  • Able to lead a large team of artists in a dynamically changing environment.
  • Familiarity with industry standard tools such as Maya, Photoshop and Substance.
  • Understanding of different art pipelines such as character asset creation, world building, outsource asset development, etc.

These are nice to have but not required:

  • Strong project management capabilities.
  • General understanding of game-specific technical knowledge.
  • Experience in the first-person shooter genre.
