THE ROLE:
The Corporate Vice President of Total Rewards will be responsible for the global strategy and execution of executive compensation, broad-based compensation, and benefits. Reporting to the Chief HR Officer, this key executive position will serve as a strategic human resources leader and business executive. This position is critical, not only to manage the total rewards for all internal employees, but to be a thought leader to connect total rewards to the HR strategy of turning our people strategy into high performance results. This individual will have a proven track record of creating innovative, industry-leading rewards strategies and programs, and will need to be comfortable operating in a dynamic environment. The successful candidate will have the ability to build relationships and be a high-level strategic thinker capable of partnering with AMD’s senior leaders but will also be capable of being a hands-on manager and "do-er". They will bring a forward looking and innovative approach, which will be critical in ensuring that AMD’s rewards are competitive, drive business results, are aligned with its culture, and understood and valued by its managers and employees. A humanistic leader who is passionate about developing their team, this individual will serve as a key member of AMD’s HR leadership team (HRLT) and will develop recommendations for discussion with the CEO, AMD’s Executive Team (AET) and the Compensation Leadership Resources Committee (CLRC) of the Board of Directors.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop/align total rewards offerings and initiatives with AMD’s business strategy, diagnosing business challenges, exploring alternative solutions, and recommending best-fit solutions; identify opportunities for increased efficiency/effectiveness.
- Ensure total rewards strategy and overall program design aligns with strategic business objectives and is effective in attracting, rewarding, and retaining key talent, in a manner that is fully compliant with local legal and regulatory requirements.
- Evaluate all total rewards programs, ensuring they are competitive with the marketplace, sustainable, scalable, and integrated with business systems, and have a positive impact on the long- and short-term performance of the organization.
- In collaboration with the Board’s CLRC and their outside compensation consultant, proactively review executive compensation matters and trends. Prepare and present analyses, materials and recommendations relating to executive compensation to senior leadership.
- Serve as a consultative resource to the CEO, CHRO, CFO and the rest of the AET for all matters relating to total rewards.
- Analyze market competitiveness and cost-effectiveness of benefit plans to ensure they optimize the company's ability to attract and retain top talent. Implement new and modify existing programs to maximize positive benefits and wellbeing outcomes for employees while managing cost effectiveness and compliance.
- Manage relationships with key health and welfare plan vendors, including the company’s third-party administrators, ensuring cost effective and high-performance results in alignment with AMD’s strategy.
- Lead, develop and mentor a global team.
- Lead and shape the vision for total rewards, working in partnership with other members of HR leadership to deliver on the HR agenda supporting business objectives.
- Support M&A/integration activity, optimizing compensation and benefit programs while ensuring consistency and compliance.
- Leverage data and trends to engage and support employees while actively managing the costs of benefits and driving cost reductions.
- Operate as an internal consultant to HR professionals, serving as the subject matter expert.
- Partner with senior leadership to leverage total reward programs to meet organizational objectives.
EXPERIENCE and CHARACTERISTICS:
- Demonstrated success as a leader in Total Rewards, with experience providing rewards solutions within large-scale, complex, publicly traded organizations. This individual will naturally collaborate with others, having worked in a heavily matrixed organization to achieve organizational goals and to identify and resolve problems.
- Executive compensation experience designing and implementing executive compensation programs at a publicly traded company or a top global compensation consulting firm.
- Extensive experience working with boards of directors and compensation committees on all matters related to board and executive compensation in a public company.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare and present materials in a clear and concise manner to senior leaders, team members, and compensation committee members.
- Exposure to the various aspects of broad-based compensation, including compensation structures and incentive design, in roles of increasing scale and responsibility.
- M&A/change management experience with leading edge/progressive total rewards and HR practices, to include mergers, acquisitions, integrations, joint-ventures, and divestitures.
- Benefits experience with a record of success providing comprehensive oversight in dealing with a variety of retirement plans, health, and wellness plans.
- Demonstrated partnerships, effectively working with peers and partners in and outside of AMD. Proactively engages all stakeholders, including HR and other functions to build a rapport and earn broad based support for initiatives.
- Understands business issues and the related human capital implications to design and deliver total rewards solutions that move the business forward.
- Ability to effectively communicate and implement a strategic compensation program and philosophy.
- Proactively leverages external network to bring global, cross-industry perspectives.
- Demonstrates resilience, grit, humility and optimism.
