AMD together we advance_

THE ROLE:

As a CPU Core Architect Design Engineer, you will have a unique opportunity to plan the design for a functional unit and contribute to generating, vetting, and forming the plan for AMD’s next-generation Cores. You will work in the center of an experienced, skilled, and motivated engineering team with a track record of success. As a leader in the Core Architecture/RTL team, you will work on the leading edge of processor technology and collaborate with the Performance Modeling, Design Verification, Physical Design, Post-Silicon, and Customer-facing Teams to define and bring AMD’s ambitious future CPU roadmap a reality.

THE PERSON:

You approach challenges relentlessly with both critical thinking and creativity. You work as part of a team with strong communication and collaboration skills. You have a solid understanding of modern CPU architecture and have ideas and the drive to make it even better. Does this describe you? If so, then join us!

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Research CPU Architecture to understand new industry and academic developments for application to AMD’s next-generation CPU Cores.
  • Collaborate and brainstorm with a team of hardware and software engineers to define the high-level architecture for AMD’s CPU Cores.
  • Partner with various CPU Design disciplines to explore, analyze, model, and refine ideas for execution.
  • Help define AMD’s future CPU Core Architecture roadmap.
  • Document and present ideas to the broader design community. Continually update documents and answer questions as new information comes to light.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge and experience in crafting modern CPU Core architectures and features.
  • Understanding of the CPU Core and silicon development flow. Previous involvement from “clean sheet” design to production.
  • Experience and skills in one or more aspects of CPU Design: Performance, Architecture, Design Verification, or Physical Design/Implementation.
  • Experience in one or more traditional CPU units/areas (e.g., Branch Prediction, Instruction Fetch/Decode/Dispatch, Scheduling, Integer or Floating Point Compute, Load-Store, Prefetching, Cache Hierarchy, etc.)
  • Proven experience with microarchitecture development, as demonstrated by patents, publications, and product features.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to think through details, anticipate, and solve problems before execution.

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE DESIRED:

  • System-level knowledge or experience (e.g., SOC, Memory Controller, IO, etc.).
  • Knowledge of x86 Architecture (ISA).
  • Technical leadership experience.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical, Computer Engineering, or related field of study.
