THE ROLE: 

AMD seeks a seasoned trade compliance leader with deep technical knowledge of integrated circuit design and development. This role involves strategically interpreting and navigating export regulations, classifying hardware, software, and technology items according to U.S. and international export compliance rules. The director will lead technical discussions with government agencies on export regulations and collaborate with business and engineering teams across the organization. 

 

THE PERSON: 

The ideal candidate will possess expert knowledge of U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR), International Traffic and Arms Regulations (ITAR), and the Wassenaar Arrangement. They should be adept at communicating and educating cross-functional teams on export controlled technical parameters in the semiconductor industry. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Review and interpret existing and proposed EAR, ITAR, and Wassenaar regulations for AMD’s product portfolio. 

  • Collaborate with regulatory officials on export control technical parameters. 

  • Work with internal business and engineering teams on export control technical parameters. 

  • Act as AMD’s global trade compliance technical classification expert. 

  • Educate global trade team members and engineering/business leaders on export classifications. 

  • Support submissions of CCATS, Commodity Jurisdictions, and export licensing applications. 

  • Lead and author internal self-classification documentation. 

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 

  • 15 years of experience with U.S. export controls (EAR & ITAR). 

  • Extensive knowledge of U.S. EAR classification in categories 3, 4, and 5. 

  • Knowledge of ITAR classification and USML. 

  • Knowledge of the Wassenaar Arrangement. 

  • Current membership in a U.S. Technical Advisory Committee, preferably ISTAC. 

 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS: 

  • Degree in engineering, international business, or equivalent experience. 

 

LOCATION: 

  • Austin, TX or San Jose, CA.
