THE ROLE:
We are looking for a leader to join the Server Customer Platform Engineering team to help enable customers design and deploy Server platforms using AMD EPYC solutions. In this role you will be working closely with key customers in the datacenter and Enterprise OEMs to support design in and sustaining activities. This includes providing training, providing design guidance, dispositioning feature requests, debugging and resolving issues in a timely manner. You will also serve as the trusted advisor and/or consultant to executives, be a leader and mentor to junior members of the team.
THE PERSON:
The ideal candidate should have a broad and deep understanding of server platform architecture and key technologies, extensive hands-on experience in server firmware development and debug, deep knowledge of x86 ISA and hardware/firmware/software interfaces. The candidate should also possess strong communication and collaboration skills, be highly motivated and self-learning. You have demonstrated the ability to establish credibility with both engineering and leadership counterparts at top technology companies, communicate technical results and positions clearly and accurately, and drive alignment on solutions. You possess strong debug skills with proven track record of debugging complex issues all the way to root cause and delivering quality solutions. You are able to influence management, customers, and team members. You can work both independently and collaboratively in fast paced environments.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Interface with customers to drive successful product launches
- Interface with customers and provide BIOS and FW support on customer server platforms with AMD solutions, including technical Q&A, triage, and debug. This includes supporting IBV and customer EDKII code bases.
- Drive customer timely integration and adoption of AMD FW initiatives and technologies.
- Support internal and external platform bring-up.
- Break complex system-level problems down into manageable pieces and drive resolution through design of experiments and data-driven decisions; Drive task forces or debug efforts related to errata, performance, security, or other firmware and silicon issues which are complex and require extensive cross-team / cross-discipline collaboration.
- Synthesize customer platform information and/or internal data to provide recommendations/guidance for internal decision making
- Synthesize information and produce materials to communicate efficiently and effectively with internal stakeholders and customers at all levels of the organization; Develop and deliver customer communications to bring clarity to complex situations.
- Understand customer BIOS and FW requirements, articulate feature gaps into clear requests to partner stakeholders. Drive feature deliverables with timelines back to customers.
- Advocate for customer interests as appropriate and act as the voice of the customer to internal architecture and development teams
- Learn new AMD technologies and train customer on how to leverage them in their designs; Work with firmware architects and SoC designers to implement proofs of concept and productize new AMD silicon features
- Drive customer activities with RAS, telemetry, out of band management, At-Scale Debug, security features, bug fixes, etc
- Drive continuous improvements with outgoing FW quality
- Drive solutions which meet customer needs with appropriate risks and tradeoffs
- Coordinate priorities and activities with other engineering partners to meet commitments.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Strong written and spoken communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of server architecture, x86 processors, experience with UEFI and silicon initialization firmware code.
- Solid understanding of DDR, PCIe , eSPI, etc.
- Expertise in C programming language and hardware debugging.
- Knowledge of RAS is a plus.
- Deep knowledge of x86 instruction set and concepts such as interrupts, exceptions, microcode, privilege levels, addressing and memory management, SMT, power management, hardware/software interfaces, etc.
- Multiple years of hands-on experience developing low level software such as BIOS/UEFI and drivers. Must be comfortable with assembly code.
- Multiple years of experience working directly with customers in a technical capacity. Experience communicating technical details of errata, explaining root cause and workarounds/fixes, and helping customers assess risk and impact.
- Proven track record of shipping production code which was deployed at scale with high quality.
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (preferred) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
