As a Game Designer, you will design, tweak, and optimize the player experience. Your analytical skills, player insight, and creativity aid in crafting in- and out-of-game experiences that engage and surprise players. You will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and work with every tool at hand to innovate and iterate player-focused designs that'll delight millions around the world.


As a Game Designer III on an R&D game, you will help decipher one of Riot’s next big bets. You partner with other designers, artists, and engineers to innovate and iterate player-focused designs that aim at delivering a groundbreaking experience. We are still small, so this requires plenty of hands-on work creating, iterating, and tuning systems/mechanics. You are comfortable operating in an ambiguous environment where goals and constraints are mostly team driven and where change, big and small, is a critical part of the process.

Specifically, you will help Tadpole create the systems that enrich this PvP open world first person shooter game set in the Valorant universe. You will invent or innovate on battle royale, survival, and extraction systems to generate memorable stories and keep players on the edge of their seats, even after hundreds of hours. You will collaborate with other designers, especially combat and level designers, to keep combat predictable and engaging and the open world sandbox appropriately paced. You will connect metasystems to growth and novelty inside the play session. You will report to the Design Manager on the team.


  • Design or help design Extraction and BR systems such as dynamic environments, emergent and grouped social events, session pacing, progression, economy, recognition
  • Responsible for rapid implementation / integration, great feel, and iterative improvements in the space
  • Work collaboratively with the Design team and Tadpole Leads to create a great holistic experience
  • Create clear design documentation that can be evaluated and implemented by non-designers
  • Help guide the project through pre-production and ultimately even launch and ongoing live support
  • Potential to move into a management or leadership role as the team grows

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of professional experience in combat or progression systems design
  • Can create and extend complex systems in partnerships with team members from other disciplines
  • Has owned major feature work including team direction

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working on a AAA game launch
  • User Experience or Player Onboarding Experience
  • Experience growing and leading a team
  • Extensive experience playing and ideally developing PvP FPS games
  • Experience with Unreal
