We are a global team of creators, storytellers, technologists, experience originators, innovators and so much more. We believe amazing games and experiences start with teams as diverse as the players and communities we serve. At Electronic Arts, the only limit is your imagination.

EA SPORTS is one of the leading sports entertainment brands in the world, with top-selling videogame franchises, award-winning interactive technology, fan programs, and cross-platform digital experiences. EA SPORTS creates connected experiences that ignite the emotion of sport through industry-leading sports video games, including Madden NFL football, EA Sports FC soccer, NHL® hockey, and EA SPORTS UFC.

The Gameplay Modes Engineer is a versatile generalist who will focus on game modes strategy and the "feel" of a game. You will lead a POD of engineers to implement the rules of play for different game modes and the infrastructure to support different modes of play. You will report to the team's manager and work with your peers on developing the game's foundational game modes technology as well as concrete game mode implementations.

Your Responsibilities

  • Bring the vision of the Artists and Designers to life.
  • Design and write the code that runs and controls the game, incorporating and adapting existing libraries and writing needed custom code.
  • Be a mentor and technical leader for the group working on gameplay systems.
  • Prototype new mechanics to prove designs and improve mechanics.
  • Design and document technical designs for Gameplay systems.
  • Develop tools and workflows to produce new game features.
  • Work with a proprietary engine to develop shareable code and interface correctly with the engine.
  • Architect game modes systems which can be extended over time to meet the needs of additional game requirements at incremental cost.

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent training and professional experience.
  • 7+ years experience with C++ and experience in object-oriented design and implementation.
  • Knowledge of good software programming practices.
  • Understanding of multi-threaded architectures and synchronization principles.
  • Excellent debugging experience using tools to help debug.
  • Understand performance implications of Gameplay systems & algorithms and how to improve them.
  • Familiar with scripting languages (Python, Lua, Ruby) and interpreted languages. (C#, Java)
  • Knowledge in a second field, such as physics or mathematics.
  • Familiar with basic game development technologies such as Perforce, Visual Studio.

Regardless of your specialization, a few things we're always looking for:

  • Passion. You love programming and are always looking to learn more and hone your craft.
  • A sense of humility and ability to thrive in a team environment. You look for help when you're stuck and you want to help your teammates when they need it.
  • A knack for managing your time. You know when to go deeper on a task versus recognizing that it's time to get 'er done and move on to the next thing. Quality is important, but so is speed!
  • Drive to execute. Projects you've worked on in the past (personal or professional) got finished, and got finished properly... and it had a lot to do with you.
