As a Lead Artist at Ubisoft Barcelona, you will guide the team responsible for several gameplay features on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and continue their mission to develop exciting, challenging and forward-thinking features and next-gen visuals for an upcoming AAA title.

 

This role will require you to plan, detail, and supervise the work of the art team. As Lead Artist you will also work closely with the Lead Studio Art Director to establish and achieve the artistic goals and visual benchmars for the project. The candidate will be in charge of following the art team’s work, coach team members, and validate production outcomes while overseeing part of the development of the game.

What you´ll do

  • Understand consumer needs and ensure that the elements developed by the team will contribute to player satisfaction and enjoyment being also up to current industry quality standards.
  • Assess the workload vs production capacity, plan the work, and set priorities for the art team.
  • Allocate duties and follow the evolution of the team’s progress on art deliverables.
  • Able to support and follow-up on prototyping with game designers and other disciplines involved.
  • Communicate the project objectives, strategies, and general information to all art team members.
  • Actively participate and act as a regular liaison in the decision-making process with management and oversee the necessary adjustments to ensure that the art team meets the lead studio expectations.
  • Attend playtests and be solution-oriented to the problems encountered.
  • Carry out performance follow ups and assessments.
  • Participate in the selection of new team members.
  • Manage any conflicts that arise within the team.
  • Create a work environment that is motivating for team members and which fosters development and creation.
  • Support career advancement and suggest development and interpersonal skills training and techniques sessions to team members.

What you´ll bring

  • 2-4 years of experience in a Senior/Lead Artist role in the videogames industry, preferably on AAA PC/console title.
  • Experience supervising an art team to deliver a significant gameplay content.
  • Ability to work in a team, bringing good leadership skills and delegate work accordingly.
  • Excellent artistic skills, with good knowledge of current industry standards, tools, pipelines and tecnhiques.
  • Exceptional mentorship, communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Critical thinking, curiosity, resourcefulness, and plenty of flexibility.
  • Basic understanding of planning and monitoring tools (Jira, Excel).
  • Ability to manage your own time and work within deadlines. 
  • Strong ability to collaborate with multiple international teams, both internal and external.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and great verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • A solid understanding of the market and a passion for video games.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with team members of different departments.
