New World Interactive is an award-winning game studio dedicated to crafting exciting tactical playgrounds. Our best in class artists, animators and developers have led us to the success in creating games like Insurgency, Day of Infamy, and Insurgency: Sandstorm.

We have set out to explore new horizons and aim to combine our expertise with the best and most forward-thinking talents in the industry. As we work towards launching our newest tactical hardcore shooter game, we are growing our small team and seeking a Lead Technical Animator to join our core team to act as a bridge between the artists and programmers to ensure art content and features are easily integrated; while respecting the artistic vision and technical constraints of the project.

What You Will Do:
  • Build an efficient rigging and animation pipeline within the Unreal engine that will get us to launching the game; Your ultimate goal will be to create a custom pipeline that can be documented and replicated for future projects and that requires minimal alterations. Your role will primarily consist of creating and maintaining the tools necessary to help the animators bring our animations from the initial mocap phase, all the way to their final destination in-game. You are entering an environment where systems have been established but are continuously evolving. You will be relied upon to bring forth your understanding of gameplay animation, mechanics and scripting as you collaborate closely with engineering, design and animation to bridge the gap between the animation and the engine code. Success in this outcome means you build replicable tools that can be used across the studio in the future.
  • Act as a conduit between the artists and programmers with a specific focus on producing an output that allows for optimal flow; You will liaise between the art and technical team as you work to streamline the most efficient method of optimizing the animation team’s work into the game. You will do this through negotiating with the technical department in defining the rigs and script to make sure the animation links are well integrated into the pipeline. The ideal outcome is to successfully mesh the animations with the game code, minimizing additional work required from the programmers.
  • Lead the team to success in building up the departments as the organization continues to grow; As you are building the pipeline, you will also be entrusted as a leader to take ownership over orchestrating the future of the department. You will do this through consistently and effectively communicating with your team members to ensure excellence in their outputs by providing constructive feedback, offering technical support to the animation team in their production issues, diagnosing software problems with programmers, maintaining a seamless process as well as over time, bringing in future members who uphold the same standard of quality and values.
Who You Are:
  • Someone who is well versed in Unreal engine; you are highly familiar with using Unreal Engine in a production environment, particularly, developing tools as part of an animation pipeline ideally within the gaming industry.
  • A masterful communicator; as the lead technical animator, you will frequently check-in with artists and programmers. This means that you have no problem adjusting your communication style to make others feel comfortable in voicing their thoughts. Ultimately, you want to provide a platform for members to bring up what is working well and what isn’t, while empowering them to make their own suggestions. You have a history of being able to successfully work with many different types of personalities.
  • Someone with a history of making life easier for animators; you have worked successfully in discussing and addressing their needs with a goal to overall make everyone’s jobs easier. Because you are highly dedicated to the success of the team, you are constantly searching for what the best solution is for every member through exploring new workflows and ideas.
  • Passionate about leading the ongoing evolution of the studio; you’re able to create in your day to day role, but your eye never diverts from the big picture. You are proactively interested in what the game and studio needs, and as a leader, drive the decision-making in your department with the focus on the future. True success in this role means our Art Director can fully trust you to move the department forward.
  • A person with a track-record of success; you have previously mentored if not led people or teams. It is likely that you have created or delivered tools and systems from beginning to end throughout their different phases which means that by now, you are an expert in pipeline development. Your maturity in your profession is a reflection of your highly intricate level of knowledge of animation principles, coding and scripting abilities and wide range of video gaming experience. While we don’t believe that the number of games shipped is a meaningful metric of success, we do know that you’ve been involved in development from the beginning to end of a game’s lifecycle.
