The Lead Tools Engineer will build a team to work across disciplines and create tools that assist content creators and developers in being more efficient and effective in their work by creating, updating and maintaining tools for pipeline management, build automation, art and animation, and documenting as they go.
This role is a full time salaried position, reporting to the Lead Engine Programmer. This role could be performed on-site at our Boston area office, or remotely within the continental US and Canada, according to US East coast core hours. Benefits and salary available varies by country. For US hires wishing to relocate to the Boston area, relocation assistance is available.
Responsibilities
Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of in-house tools and systems to improve workflows for developers from all disciplines.
Develop custom editor tools, content pipelines, and asset management systems that integrate seamlessly with Unreal Engine 5.
Collaborate with other departments to proactively identify bottlenecks, pain points, and opportunities for optimization.
Integrate and improve existing tools used across projects and the organization.
Work with production and recruiting to hire, onboard and scope the tools engineering team.
Distill tool support requests into meaningful, actionable work, and delegate to the team effectively, ensuring deliverables are processed on time.
Propose tools or technologies that could enhance the ability to deliver great systems support.
At least 5 years experience as a Tools Engineer with at least 2 years of experience in a leadership roleExperience in Unreal Engine 4 / 5
Proficient with C++
Strong communication, documentation and problem solving skills
A customer oriented work ethic
Candidates must have a US or Canadian work permit or citizenship
Curiosity, kindness, and a positive and professional can-do attitude
Nice to Haves
Prior experience on a released AAA title
Experience with a scripting language or system, such as Blueprint, Python, MEL
Experience with Maya, Visual Studio, C#
The expected annual salary range for this position is $180,000 - $219,000 USD, negotiable, for US hires. Canadian hire salaries and benefits are provided via CD PROJEKT RED Vancouver. Salary offered will be based upon a number of factors, including but not limited to: country location, skill set, years and quality of experience, and suitability for the role.
