MTS SYSTEMS DESIGN ENGINEER 

 

THE ROLE: 

AMD’s Strategic Silicon Solutions group is responsible for custom silicon solutions for advanced gaming platforms such as XBOX, PlayStation, Steam Deck. As a Post-Silicon Power and Performance Validation Lead you will play a critical role in ensuring our custom silicon products meet power/perf targets and are optimized for customer use cases. To do this, you will interact with the architecture, software, manufacturing, and other teams to develop a deep understanding of the product power and performance requirements, guide a team of engineers to develop and execute studies and testcases to validate the product meets specifications, and develop strategies to improve the efficiency of silicon. The role requires extensive data analysis and communication of results with customers and senior leaders.   

 

THE PERSON: 

We are looking for a technical leader with extensive experience in x86, ARM, or GPU hardware or firmware development with a passion for power and performance validation and optimization spanning low-power mobile to console-level devices. This person should thrive in a matrixed environment spanning multiple countries and time zones and enjoy working hands-on in a lab environment. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Lead planning and execution of post-silicon power or performance validation and optimization of custom silicon 
  • Work onsite in the lab to execute pre- and post-silicon tasks
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and customer engineering to support product definition and enable production
  • Develop deep expertise in existing and new power and performance features
  • Perform pre- and post-silicon power and performance correlation, debug, and analysis
  • Develop test plans for power or performance validation 
  • Debug and troubleshoot system level issues related to power and performance 
  • Mentor junior team members and provide technical guidance through the planning and execution phases of post-silicon power or performance attainment and optimization efforts
  • Develop relationships and collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Clearly document all test procedures and results for both internal and external customers

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 

  • Technical leadership of a large post-silicon validation and tuning effort
  • Detailed microarchitecture knowledge in one or more of the following IPs - CPU, GPU, DSP, multimedia co-processor, I/O subsystem, DRAM controller, etc.
  • Experience in x86, ARM, or GPU hardware or firmware development
  • Experience analyzing data using Excel, Python, PowerBI, R, Matlab, or similar
  • Experience working in a fast paced matrixed and multi-site technical organization
  • Experience working directly with external customers and partners   

 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS: 

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science or equivalent experience.
