As an Online Engineer at Ubisoft San Francisco, you have direct influence over the quality of XDefiant’s online experience. You are entrusted with developing the game’s online features, optimizing online performance, and developing custom services deployed to the cloud. You are part of a team developing the infrastructure, preparing the game for launch, and working with the support team once it’s live.
During the game’s development, you commit yourself to answering the most fundamental questions: Do the servers scale to support hundreds of thousands of concurrent users? Will it be easy for the player to connect? Are the matchmaking systems giving players the best games possible? Is the whole experience as seamless as it can be?
As a dependable member of a cohesive online team, you will participate in the design, coding, integration, and debugging of the game’s networked and online features. You care about providing our players with the seamless online playground they deserve.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Develop and maintain XDefiant’s core game services
- Develop network-based, in-game features for the game client
- Collaborate with the game server team to optimize network usage
- Evaluate game service performance and optimize systems
- Implement and improve integration with central Ubisoft network services
- Document systems and procedures
- Support the live operations team leading up to and after release
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- C/C++ experience with understanding of multi-threaded programming techniques
- Experience with low-level animation systems in modern game engines
- Understanding of low-level optimizations and cross-platform development
- Experience building games as an engineer for PlayStation, Xbox, or PC
- Ability to be self-directed, focused, and detail-oriented
- Experience on the new generation of consoles (PS5, Xbox Series X)

The San Francisco base salary range for this full-time position is $128,000 - $160,000. The base pay offered may vary based on a candidate’s geographic region, qualifications, skills and experience among other factors. Compensation details reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, stock options, or benefits.
