Principal Software Architect : C/C++/GPU/Data Center - 135954



In this role, the candidate will work directly with customers and the internal AMD teams to create and enable prototype to demonstrate AMD product capabilities for gaming, data center, cloud service, and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI).  The SW architect will partner with business leads and other architects to deliver best customer software solution for Semi-Custom business success.


The role needs to have an in-depth knowledge of both software and hardware and solid hands-on experience in order to learn, design and implement software for complex customer use cases; all on aggressive timelines.   The leading architect must have excellent communication, collaboration and leadership skills, including executive level communications.  The candidate must have a proven track record of working well with high quality deliverable with end customers.  The role will have limited travel and will report up to the Director of Semi-Custom Software.




  • Engage with AMD Semi-Custom architects and business leads from program early phase, understand HW specification and identify new SW technologies involved in customer user cases.
  • Interface directly with AMD customers,  participate in technical discussion and influence customer ensuring their success.
  • Design and implement prototypes on AMD SoC to help AMD win new business, or guide future technology direction
  • Work with AMD SW organizations to understand AMD SW roadmaps and latest technologies
  • Guide development team in software architecture design and execution planning in early stage of the program
  • Drive technical innovations to enhance Semi-Custom software team capabilities.



  • Solid C/C++ Programmer, and hands-on practitioner
  • Highly organized, able to prioritize, and have deadline in mind
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Broader interest to learn and explore new technologies
  • Expert in at least one of the required domains, but also open-mind to cross domain for the research need
    • 3D Graphics driver (D3D, OGL, Vulkan, etc)
    • Graphics tool/engine optimization
    • GPU Kernel driver (Windows, Linux or Android)
    • Linux kernel
    • SR-IOV based Virtualization or Container based Virtualization (docker, LXC, LXD, etc)
    • Machine learning
    • SmartNIC and DataStorage



  • Minimum electrical or computer engineering bachelor’s degree with 15+ of experience in the development of large scale of software/firmware systems
