PMTS SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER 

 

THE ROLE: 

The RTG (Radeon Technologies Group) GPU Architecture team is instrumental to AMD’s success. We create innovative hardware solutions and deliver world class GPUs. AMD is looking for a software engineer to become a Principal Member of Technical Staff (PMTS) in our GPU architecture team.

 

THE PERSON: 

The ideal candidate should be passionately fluent in GPU architecture, modern graphics APIs, GPU performance, game technology rendering pipelines, and possess the software engineering talent and leadership skills to drive sophisticated technology issues to resolution. They should be able to communicate effectively and work optimally with different teams across AMD.  

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Work with a team of architects for developing innovative algorithms and new hardware in the field of graphics and compute for high performance GPUs .
  • Develop architectural models of new features, and implement key algorithms in shader code, C++, or python.
  • Understand and improve existing and emerging graphics/compute paradigms and new APIs.
  • Identify complex technical problems, break them down, summarize multiple possible solutions, and help the team make advances in Performance, Power, and silicon Area (PPA). 
  • Work with subsystem architects to understand bottlenecks in  graphics cores, SoCs, etc.
  • Collaborate with engineers and managers on multiple sites. 

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 

  • Working knowledge of modern GPU architecture.
  • Strong object-oriented programming background, C/C++ preferred.
  • Strong experience with modern graphics and GPU compute APIs and their shading languages including DirectX12/HLSL, Vulkan/GLSL, CUDA/OpenCL.
  • Ability to write high quality code with a keen attention to detail. 
  • Experience with modern game engine rendering pipelines, interactive ray tracing, and compute-based rendering.
  • Experience with modern concurrent programming and task threading APIs.
  • Experience with software development processes and tools such as debuggers, source code control systems (e.g. GitHub) and GPU profilers.
  • Self-motivated with effective communication, strong problem-solving skills, and good interpersonal skills.

 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS: 

  • Minimum: Bachelor of Science degree with emphasis in Computer architecture, or Computer Science with relevant professional experience.
  • Preferred: Master or PhD degree with emphasis in Computer Graphics, Computer Architecture, or Computer Science, and relevant professional experience.
