Chief of Staff – Data Center Solutions Group

THE ROLE:

The Chief of Staff reports directly to the General Manager of the Data Center Solutions Group (DSG), and is a core support function that spans the business and operational aspects of the group, which includes multiple business units along with system architecture and strategy functions.  This role comes with a high degree of visibility and access to virtually every aspect of AMD’s data center business, along with high expectations to provide connections between teams and activities. Some of the key responsibilities for the CoS include ensuring consistent operational performance, enabling transparency to business operations for leadership, developing executive presentation material, and driving key strategic initiatives as determined by evolving business needs.

THE PERSON:

The successful candidate is a proactive and engaged leader! She/he is skilled in developing and sustaining positive interpersonal relationships, and is adept in navigating and applying influence in a matrixed environment. The Chief of Staff is creative, resourceful and decisive, and strives to be a trusted resource across the company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and drive operational and governance activities for the business group, including key forums such as Integrated Product Development reviews, Operations reviews, contract reviews, and leadership staff meetings
  • Represent DSG and drive various corporate-level operational activities for the business group, including quarterly Earnings and Guidance, Long Range Planning, Annual Operating Plan, tax credit planning and workforce planning
  • Manage DSG Operations team members
  • Work closely with the business group GM to develop and curate a strong understanding of their strategy, key priorities, expectations and management style in order to help increase their effectiveness
  • Partner with the executive admin to manage scheduling, prioritization and readiness for the GM
  • Represent the business group GM, and entire DSG team, when interacting with AMD Executive Team and all AMDers, as well as with external partners and customers.
  • Provide the organization with clear expectations for executive forums, including preparedness, brevity and clarity of message, to ensure efficient use of time
  • Prepare executive presentation material for key internal forums, including AET and Board of Directors
  • Work with BU teams to prepare presentation materials for key customer, partner and public meetings and events
  • Work across DSG staff and their teams to provide effective coordination of program planning and management, ensuring alignment to DSG strategic goals
  • Personify and enable a culture of accountability, proactive communication, open collaboration and innovation
  • Develop effective partnerships and work closely with business partners and stakeholders across the company (Operations, Finance, Legal, HR, Marketing, Engineering, et al)
  • In partnership with Communications and HR, develop and manage key internal and external communications

Preferred Skills:

  • Demonstrated team and program leadership success
  • Recent and relevant experience in the technology industry; experience in data center is highly desirable
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with experience in communications with executives, individual contributors and customers
  • Proactive with high personal accountability and a focus on team success over individual recognition
  • Skilled in developing and sustaining positive interpersonal relationships
  • Experience with workings of a and knowledge of P&L and
  • Strong business acumen, with understanding of team and organization dynamics
  • A track record of creativity and innovation in solutions
  • High level of proficiency in MS office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and in data analysis, synthesis and presentation

Educational Credentials:

  • Undergraduate degree required; MS or MBA preferred
