Your Mission

As a User researcher you will join an energetic, dedicated, and diverse team of user researchers to lead and implement research and evaluation efforts on the largest gaming franchises in the world. This role could be temporarily remote but will eventually be expected to work onsite at the Activision User Research Center (AURC), located in Woodland Hills, California. In this role, you’ll help provide modeling, statistical, and telemetry-based insights to guide the evolution of games in development based on player feedback and behavior. By the end of your first year, you’ll be comfortable creating and supporting dashboards to answer specific needs, developing ML models and automated solutions to common user research practices, and visualizing results and periodic reports to derive new insights to share with devs and teammates.

Priorities can often change in a fast-paced environment like ours, so this role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:

  • Help in building data infrastructure to synchronize multiple modalities of data from different sources.
  • Help in building and maintaining complex ML models for regression of player attributes and behaviors, clustering and predictive analysis.
  • Manage and maintain our code library, actively participate in building and improving our dashboards.
  • Process and improve statistical models using historical data within a game mode, franchise, or across competitor titles.
  • Create useful data-informed reports including the creation of visualization dashboards and/or graphs to supplement qualitative research and to inform and educate collaborators.
  • Help identify and communicate pre-launch telemetry and hooks needed and ensure their quality, across a variety of projects.

Player Profile

Knowledge & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree required (computer science, statistics, branches of psychology, human computer interaction, human factors, information technology, or related field).  Advanced degree is preferred.
  • Knowledge of advanced statistics and machine learning, as well as quantitative research methods, including proficiency in inferential statistical methods and modeling.

Key Attributes

  • Must have a passion for video games, especially FPS or competitive multiplayer games.
  • Entrepreneurial attitude: ready to seek out opportunities to expand the value and scope of our quantitative offerings through relationship building and technical or methodological innovation.
