The Role:

At AMD,  the high growth and versatile Embedded Division is looking to be the lead silicon and solutions provider in new and emerging segments, paving the way with carefully crafted next generation solutions and innovations from Edge to Cloud. 

The Solutions Architect will work with our Tier 1 strategic customers and are the primary technical contacts for our customers. They engage deeply with customers and internally with subject matter experts to bring-to life compelling solutions that enable customers be successful. This role will be highly visible technical execution role with a direct opportunity to impact the customer success and there-of success of embedded business. 

The Person:

A system or solution architect owns the technical customer engagement , from pre-design win to execution. Solution architect works closely with all stakeholders from business to engineering to ensure that the customer solution makes best entitlement of AMD technologies. A solution architect needs to have a solid understanding of the business domain, the technical domain, and the best practices and methodologies for solution design and delivery.

This role is twofold, external facing, you will be driving deep-technical discussions with customers, solutions architecting for their unique requirements and in essence be the overall technical-authority/engineering lead for the customer program. This person must have the unique skill set of connecting the dots across domains to be able to solutions architect complex custom features and enable best performance for all the relevant usage scenarios for the customer solution.

You will interact with key engineering and management stakeholders for the strategic customers as well as AMD’s business team to report progress, align on critical topics and drive action items to closure.

• This position reports into Director of Customer Systems Engineering and is based out of Austin TX or Santa Clara CA(Other locations will be considered for candidates with right qualifications).

Key Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities will be to lead technical customer engagements to help drive customer solutions with AMD technologies.  Strong experience at a platform level that includes hardware, software and systems is essential. You should be able to thrive in a dynamic environment and work independently with strong communication and written skills during engagements. You will need to build technical credibility, be a strong influencer and work closely with the customer team, including sales, marketing, program management and internal development teams. Some travel to conferences and customers will be required.

• Be key technical interface to Tier 1 strategic customers from early pre-design win phase and technically influence them to get the win
• Understand requirements and drive deep gap-analysis working with Product Managers to drive new SoC/SW/Solution requirements back in product
• Work with Subject matter experts and customers to architect solutions based on AMD and external technologies. Ensure customer design take key considerations and trade-offs to ensure best features and performance entitlement from AMD based solution.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership, prototyping PoCs and hands-on development and debug of complex technical problems. Connect dots for different domains and provide close technical oversight.
• Develop and lead Reference Designs Roadmap, PoCs, demos or use-case development and optimizations as needed to win and sustain designs.
• Research, define and drive Solutions for key segments to highlight and showcase AMD value-proposition; Work with ecosystem partners to provide a complete technical solution to the customer
• Keep updated with industry trends and provide inputs / recommendations to the roadmap product managers and architects.
• Author technical paper, reference solutions, applications note internally as well as externally for NDA customers or public publications. Participate and present in key market technical events.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

• Strong understanding of processor architectures such as x86, ARM or other
• Strong development background working closely with CPU/GPU/FPGA, developing middleware and/or system SW drivers for HW accelerators in BSP & HAL or Kernel
• Deep knowledge of OS concepts and programming in Linux or Real-time operating system environments
• Exposure to virtualization technologies and hypervisors
• Strong programming background in C, C++ and scripting like Python
• System experience from processor to the platform, BIOS, SW/FW, ML and applications
• Hands-on background in AI and Deep Learning a BIG PLUS
• Good breadth and depth of systems technical knowledge (x86, SoC, Platform-HW, Platform-SW, BIOS/FW, Tools) including strong hardware knowledge
• Poven track record of working with Tier 1 customers in their product development; building credibility with customer and communication skills are key
• Team player with passion and hunger to do whatever it takes for business success. High sense of urgency and drive for results and not afraid to roll-up-the-sleeves and get things done
• Ability to build credibility, influence, align and build consensus among stakeholders working towards the final goal

Academic Credentials:

• Engineering degree in EE or CS with 10+ years of relevant extensive experience in engineering development or customer-facing technical roles as systems architect or senior systems engineer
