Sr. Data Engineer

The Partners Data Engineering team (LA) provides data warehousing and analytics solutions for the PlayStation Partners Platform - a vital collection of applications and services used by our content creators (game developers and publishers) worldwide to create and publish games and content on PlayStation.

As a Senior Data Engineer you will provide technical leadership owning the design and implementation of end-to-end solutions that are highly available, maintainable, secure and cost-effective.

We are looking for

  • An experienced Data Engineer with a strong background in AWS, software development, and automation skills to build best-in-class scalable, highly available data warehouse solutions to enable our growing business through data and insights
  • An energetic professional who is passionate about solving complex problems with data in creative and innovative ways.

Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams on multiple projects leading the design and build of forward thinking data solutions that empower our users to use data to get results.
  • Build highly scalable, resilient data pipelines and models which produce high quality datasets.
  • Help continually improve our tooling and processes by seeking and leading opportunities for automation and simplification.
  • Evaluate and implement new features that enhance our engineering and platform efficiency
  • Gain a deep understanding of our data, how it applies to the broader organization and use this to level-up our solutions
  • Deliver analysis that distills clear, meaningful insights from large, complex datasets.
  • Diagnose and solve platform and data issues - perform root cause analysis and apply solutions to prevent re-occurrence
  • Own, maintain and ensure high quality engineering standards and practices in the team
  • Mentor other team members to level-up the skills and quality of the team

Required:

  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience building highly scalable data pipelines (batch and streaming) utilizing Spark, EMR, Hive, Presto or other open source frameworks/architectures.
  • Experience with AWS or similar cloud environments, with a experience of Infrastructure as Code (e.g. Cloud Formation, EKS)
  • Experience with Cloud Data Warehousing / Data Lake technologies and architectures such as Snowflake, Redshift, Lake Formation
  • Deep understanding of how to organise data and optimise data storage in relational databases and flat file formats (e.g. on S3/Parquet)
  • Experience translating business needs to highly scalable data models and datasets.
  • Proven data modelling skills - must have demonstrable experience in reverse engineering models and designing models for data warehousing and analytics use-cases
  • Python and shell scripting experience for automation and data manipulation.
  • Expert SQL skills.
  • Prior experience utilizing dashboarding tools such as Tableau, Superset, Domo or similar.
  • Background in software engineering - able to write elegant, scalable and maintainable code.
  • Strong communication skills - you will be able to tailor your communication to technical and less technical audiences alike

Advantageous:

  • Experience with Airflow or similar open source tools.
  • Experience with Snowflake
  • Experience preparing large, complex datasets for Machine Learning pipelines a plus.
  • Prior experience working in an Agile environment.
  • Gamer or experience in the gaming industry a plus.
