CD PROJEKT RED is seeking a talented Senior Environment Artist to join our team and contribute to the next installment of the Witcher franchise. In this role, you will breathe life into the captivating world of The Witcher by crafting a diverse array of breathtaking, photorealistic environments set in a dark, grounded fantasy universe. Collaborating closely with other developers, you will play a crucial role in creating rich, engaging worlds and unforgettable cinematic moments that enhance the player experience. Daily responsibilities

  • Take ownership of locations, from Level Design blockout, through art draft, to the final polish. Utilising a strong understanding of composition, art direction, player guidance and metrics.
  • Participate in the creation of plans for quests and locations. Working closely and effectively with Quest Designers, Level Designers and Gameplay Designers to shape the player experience. Help to create solutions to problems through prototyping and iterating on the level. 
  • Help to shape the artistic vision of your locations, collaborating with Concept Art, Lighting  and VFX teams to create breathtaking photorealistic environments.
  • Push the quality of our environments in cooperation with our Art Directors and Art Leads, while maintaining artistic consistency and game vision.
  • Create high-quality meshes of your own to support your level-art work.
  • Work closely with our Environment Asset artists and Outsource partners to prepare and manage asset backlogs for your locations.
  • Work with our open world and gameplay teams to bring your locations and the world to life.
  • Collaborate with our technical and material artists to prepare materials and shaders for your locations.
  • Work within and help to maintain our production pipelines to achieve the project's visual quality and performance goals.
  • Help others put the finishing touches on locations and cinematics.
  • Provide junior members of the team with support and feedback.
  • At least 6 years of experience working in the video game industry and at least one shipped AAA title.
  • Proficiency in asset creation using industry-standard software (Blender, 3DS Max, Maya, Substance Painter, Photoshop, etc.).
  • Excellent knowledge of composition, shape, colour theory and light.
  • Excellent sense of visual storytelling.
  • Self-motivated, proactive and dedicated to improving your work.
  • Ability to accurately estimate workload and manage deadlines independently.
  • Good knowledge of physically based rendering (PBR).
  • Creativity and an excellent eye for detail.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.

Nice to have
(Please note that these skills are not required to apply for the position)

  • Strong knowledge of Unreal Engine 5.
  • Knowledge of Gameplay and Level Design Theory.
  • Knowledge of Material Creation in Substance Designer.
  • Experience with procedural content creation packages (Substance, Houdini, World Machine).

Working mode

  • Office-First: working primarily from the Warsaw or Kraków office for a minimum 3 days per week.
