What we are looking for:
Striking Distance Studios is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior IT Systems Engineer to join our dynamic IT Operations team. This role is crucial in ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of our IT infrastructure, focusing on both on-premise and cloud environments. As a smaller IT shop, we require someone who can wear multiple hats, including fulfilling IT Support roles when necessary. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in systems engineering and IT operations, a passion for continuous improvement, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards in IT service delivery and security. This will be a hybrid position with 3 days working onsite in our San Ramon studio.
Responsibilities:
- Systems Management: Design, deploy, and manage complex IT systems to ensure high availability and performance of all critical applications and services
- Cloud Integration: Implement and maintain cloud solutions, particularly in AWS and Azure, to enhance scalability and security of our IT operations
- Security Enforcement: Lead initiatives in system hardening, vulnerability assessments, and security compliance (CIS, PCI, SOX)
- Infrastructure Optimization: Optimize IT infrastructure for performance, reliability, and scalability, including servers, networks, and storage solutions
- Automation and Scripting: Develop and deploy automation scripts (PowerShell, Python) to streamline IT operations and improve efficiency
- Incident Management: Act as the primary point of contact for escalated IT incidents, ensuring rapid resolution and minimal downtime
- Change Management: Implement and oversee change management processes to ensure smooth and controlled deployment of updates and modifications to the IT environment
- Device Management: Manage and secure a diverse range of devices including desktops, laptops, mobile devices, and IoT devices using MDM solutions (Jamf, Intune, MS SCCM)
- Project Management: Utilize project planning tools such as Atlassian Jira to manage and complete projects on time
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate IT solutions with business processes and enhance overall productivity
- Game Development Support: Manage and optimize Perforce version control systems and Unreal Engine environments to support our game development processes, ensuring seamless collaboration and efficient workflows
- Documentation and Training: Maintain comprehensive documentation of IT systems and processes, and provide training to IT staff to ensure knowledge transfer and operational continuity
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in IT systems engineering and operations, with a focus on both on-premise and cloud environments
- Proficiency in Windows 10/11, Windows Server, Linux, and macOS administration
- Extensive experience in Network Security and Network Management in a Palo Alto/Meraki environment
- Extensive experience with Active Directory, Okta, OneLogin, and other identity management systems
- Strong knowledge of networking principles and technologies (DNS, DHCP, VLANs, firewalls)
- Proven expertise in cloud platforms, particularly AWS and Azure
- Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware and Hyper-V
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong scripting and automation skills using PowerShell, Python, or similar languages
- Familiarity with ITIL and ITSM methodologies
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Experience with Perforce and Unreal Engine in a game development environment
- Experience in incident management, change management, and device management
Preferred Certifications:
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
- Jamf Certified Admin
- Okta Certified Professional (expired certifications are acceptable)
In California, the expected salary range for this position is $125,000-$150,000. The listed expected salary range represents a good faith estimate and the actual pay may depend on a variety of job-related factors that can include experience, education, skills, and location.
