Ubisoft Montpellier studio is looking for a Senior Lighting Artist for the BGE2 project.

The Senior Lighting Artist will be responsible for designing and implementing various levels of real-time lighting.

Under the supervision of the Art Director, Creative Director and Technical Director, your mission will be to enhance outdoor, indoor and cinematic environments while supporting the game's gameplay.

Responsibilities :

  • Produce high quality lighting within technical and artistic constraints.
  • Optimise work by maintaining a balance between quality and performance.
  • Work with creative and art directors to achieve the desired visual atmosphere.
  • Solve complex lighting problems and contribute to the development of tools and rendering features in our proprietary engine.
  • Suggest improvements to pipelines and workflows.
  • Plan, estimate and track the progress of tasks using tracking tools.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to enhance game play through lighting.
  • Provide artistic references to enrich the visual style of the game.
  • Understand design documents to create levels that are consistent with the game's goals and style.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Excellent understanding of lighting fundamentals and colour theory.
  • Proficient in game engines (Unreal or, ideally, proprietary engines) and industry production processes.
  • Familiarity with workload management software and principles (e.g., Jira).
  • Strong expertise in real-time lighting (Real-time GI, PBR rendering pipeline, etc.).
  • Knowledge of commonly used post-processes in the industry.
  •  A strong technical affinity is required.
  • The ability to work in a multicultural environment, in French or English, is also essential.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Autonomous and capable of working within a large team.

Relevant Experience

  • Significant experience as a real-time Lighting Artist.
  • Participation in the production of one or more games as a Lighting Artist or experience completing a full project cycle for "AAA" console games.
  • Experience working on visually realistic games.
