THE ROLE:
We are seeking individuals with a desire to address challenging problems on daily basis. Virtual Bring-Up (VBU) is a premiere central methodology team that strives towards excellence, utilizes novel industry technologies, and comes up with innovative ways to address execution challenges.
This position is for an experienced Prototyping Hardware Architect covering a wide range of board architecture and development tasks for FPGA-based prototyping platforms.
THE PERSON:
As part of VBU, you will work across AMD’s product portfolio to develop and enable hardware, methodology, and tools to tackle key design cycle challenges for the company by leveraging acceleration, hardware emulation and prototyping technologies. You will have a serious level of opportunity to learn, grow and excel in this role.
KEY RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Develop and deploy FPGA-based prototyping systems across AMD business units
- Create and influence system specification documents for architecture, electrical, power delivery, thermal, and mechanical requirements
- Work closely with in-house board design teams and external contractors to guide and review schematic, layout, thermal and mechanical design
- Work closely with software teams to support firmware and tools development
- Research and select electronic components, read datasheets and application notes, work with 3rd party partners and vendors to ensure selected devices meet requirements
KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
- MUST have participated in creation of system architecture specifications for complex hardware systems
- MUST have hands-on experience in board bring-up and debugging, functional verification, and manufacturing support
- Highly experienced in hardware bring-up and debugging using test equipment like logic analyzer, oscilloscope, and protocol analyzers.
- Highly experienced with one or more of the following:
- High-speed interfaces like PCIe, USB, Ethernet, high-speed serial
- Low-speed interfaces like UART, SPI, I2C, JTAG
- Power system design
- Xilinx FPGAs and tools
- Innovative, critical thinking and troubleshooting skills
- Proficient written, verbal, negotiation, and communication skills
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Schematic and layout tools (OrCAD, Allegro), SI, thermal
- Familiarity with Open Compute Project standards and specifications
- x86 platform architecture
- Linux kernel/drivers
- C/C++, Verilog, TCL, Python
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in computer engineering/electrical engineering
