THE ROLE:
You will report to a Corporate, Vice President of Legal. Your primary responsibilities will be to provide timely legal services to support the Software Organization. You will work with the SVP that leads Software and his team to help drive software policies and processes. You will also collaborate with the attorneys supporting the AMD businesses on software policies and processes. Job duties are expected to include:
THE PERSON:
- Ability to work with client and colleagues in legal at all levels to achieve a common goal while taking into consideration both legal and business issues.
- Ability to work independently on complex issues requiring in-depth analysis and evaluation of intangibles.
- Self-starter who can work as a team with the clients, paralegals, and other attorneys to institute processes and can find creative ways to solve problems to achieve a goal for the company.
- Understands when it is appropriate to escalate issues.
- Make sound judgments and recommendations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively within the Legal team and outside of the Legal organization.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize workload and competing priorities.
- Efficient, effective, and well organized and enjoys learning about cutting-edge technology.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Drafting, negotiating and client counseling related to software contracts and software legal issues.
- Work closely with software scanning teams to lead legal initiatives to improve software processes within legal and across the company, especially as related to software intake, scanning processes, and open source release of code.
- Review legal issues related to license compatibility flagged by software scans and determine mitigation plan and appropriate license.
- Oversee and lead training initiatives for software best practices.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Progressive experience as a practicing attorney with relevant in-house experience.
- Industry specific experience strongly preferred
- Experience working with various levels from SVP to individual contributors in an engineering function
- Understanding and familiarity with common open source licenses, such as MIT, BSD, GPL, and LGPL
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
- Law degree and good standing with the appropriate State Bar is required, additional to Texas, California or Ontario bar, as applicable, is preferred.
- Bachelors degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or equivalent experience in the semiconductor industry is preferred.
