THE ROLE:

The System Administrator will be responsible for providing technical support to Engineering and Corporate organizations at AMD. This position will be required to support AMD’s global cloud infrastructure in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Furthermore, this person will be collaborating globally on efforts for various IT activities related to the AMD Engineering system environment, in accordance with AMD Worldwide IT strategies and objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work with internal customers in managing requests/changes/incidents for your areas of work, including global teams to provide support and complete IT projects.

Install, configure, maintain, tune, and troubleshoot Infrastructure such as: VMware ESXi, VMware vCenter, KVM, Nutanix, Citrix Xenserver.

  • Provide assistance to the user community by answering questions, troubleshooting problems and providing informal one-on-one training when needed. Work on helpdesk tickets to meet service level objectives.
  • Gain understanding of Global IT policies, processes, and procedures in areas like asset management, client security and ensure a high degree of compliance. Be able to advise end users as required. Support the asset management processes to ensure all assets are registered appropriately.
  • Install, configure, maintain, tune, and troubleshoot the native cloud virtual machines in Azure, GCP, AWS and OCI. 
  • Extract performance metrics from VMware, KVM, Xenserver.  Holds meeting to go through daily operational metrics and abnormality within the infrastructure.
  • Contribute to evolving standard operating procedures with a focus on problem avoidance.
  • Install and configure software, upgrade, and do patch maintenance. Ensure software license compliance. Provide hardware support (if appropriate) and troubleshooting to isolate problems. Liaise with Vendors to resolve problems. 
  • Execute on Governance/compliance and reporting; extract metrics from ServiceNow.
  • Manage configurations of virtual machines and hypervisors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Systems Engineer general experience of Unix/Linux/Virtualization system administration with:

  • Experience in designing and deploying software in Unix/Linux environment.
  • Hands on experience in troubleshooting and deploying on various hypervisor such as VMware, KVM, and cloud-based infrastructure.
  • Strong emphasis in programming skills for automation using PowerShell, Python, Ansible/Puppet, cloud_init.
  • Experienced in scaling out production Engineering compute builds, on-premises, and cloud.
  • Fully conversant with at least one or more Cloud Service Providers (Azure, GCP, AWS, OCI, etc)
  • Knowledge of compute HW such as Dell, HP, Cisco where you can provision HW with OS’s such as ESXi, KVM, Xenserver, Nutanix, Windows, Linux: (Redhat, Ubuntu, CentOS) just to name a few.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge of deployment stacks using Terraform & cloud native tools, i.e., AWS CloudFormation, Azure resource manager, GCP cloud deployment manager.
  • Experience with NAS (NFS & CIFS) storage like NetApp, Isilon & Nasuni
  • Experience with Networking fundamentals like VPN, VLAN & Firewall access control
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Rancher, or cloud-based Kubernetes services such as AKS, GKE or ECS
  • Use of HPC Job scheduling technology such as IBM LSF or SLURM in an engineering workflow
  • Tuning compute infrastructure to work more efficiently.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or above, in Science, Engineering or Liberal Arts
