As a Gameplay Software Engineer at Maxis, you will develop user-facing content for The Sims.
Job Responsibilities:
- You will use Python, C++ and ActionScript 3 to implement data-driven gameplay and UI systems.
- You will create new Sim behaviors: interaction with the world, other Sims, and objects.
- You will build creative aspects of real life within a simulation game (e.g. socialization, careers, weather).
- You will work with designers, producers, artists, and other engineers on improving the data-driven framework that brings designs to life.
- You will write technical design documents detailing software requirements.
- You will build unique content for a game that supports a large demographic of simulation player patterns.
- You will write code with performance and memory usage in mind.
- You will effectively problem solve under iteratively changing requirements during development.
Technical Requirements:
- Demonstrate technical abilities with projects implemented in C++ or Python.
- Experience with Windows platform and development tools (e.g. Visual Studio or other programming IDEs).
- Bachelor/Master’s degree in Computer Science or relevant experience.
Pluses:
- 1+ year experience in a hands-on development role.
- Demonstrate experience working in large data-driven games or applications.
- Experience developing for large-scale live products.
- Experience using static and performance analysis tools, automated testing, unit testing, and configuration management processes.
- Knowledge of UI technologies such as Scaleform, ActionScript 3, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or familiarity with Flash.
US COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS The hourly pay ranges listed below are for the defined geographic market pay zones in these states. Salary offered will be determined based on numerous relevant business and candidate factors including, for example, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and business or organizational needs. HOURLY PAY RANGES • California (depending on location e.g. Los Angeles vs. Sacramento): º $48 - $70 USD Hourly • New York (depending on location e.g. Manhattan vs. Buffalo): º $42 - $70 USD Hourly • Jersey City, NJ : º $56 - $70 USD Hourly • Colorado (depending on location e.g. Denver vs. Colorado Springs): º $45 - $59 USD Hourly • Washington (depending on location e.g. Seattle vs. Spokane): º $42 - $70 USD Hourly The hourly rate is just one part of the overall compensation at EA. We also offer a package of benefits including paid time off (3 weeks per year to start), 80 hours per year of sick time, 16 paid company holidays per year, 10 weeks paid time off to bond with baby, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full-time employees. |
