Discord is forming a new team with the mission of enhancing our existing SMS delivery systems, increasing their robustness, and collaborating with partners to address SMS fraud, while creating opportunities for future products that require SMS. We are looking for a curious self-starter who is passionate about Discord's mission of creating a new kind of place where it's easy to genuinely communicate, have fun hanging out, and build relationships. This is a cross-functional role, and you'll interface with Infrastructure, product, and safety teams. You will report to the Senior Engineering Manager for SMS Infrastructure. What You'll Be Doing
Collaborate with product engineering and safety teams to build new primitives that support SMS delivery to hundreds of millions of users, create business opportunities, and tackle fraud.
Ensure that our systems are reliable and that Discord just works.
Write code and manage our infrastructure's operations.
Work with a talented team of engineers who have built one of the largest communication platforms in the world.
You Will Thrive In This Role If...
You have 2+ years of experience building backend systems.
You are comfortable reading and writing code in large existing codebases.
You understand the basics of observability and monitoring.
You excel at navigating complex and distributed systems and are excited about finding solutions to complex technical challenges.
You enjoy coming up with pragmatic solutions to concrete problems using first principles thinking.
You have strong communication skills and thrive on small, collaborative teams
Bonus Points
Experience in Python or Rust.
Experience working with JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and other web technologies.
Experience working with systems deployed in a cloud environment (GCP, AWS, etc.)
You have built or contributed to open source projects.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $165,000 - $178,000 + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include equity, or benefits.
