The Esports team is focused on delivering amazing fan experiences through our global events and regional competitions. Our professional and semi-professional competitive tiers in League of Legends, VALORANT and other Esports involve thousands of players and hundreds of organizations competing every week.

The Sr. Manager, Global Esports Events is responsible for providing craft expertise and people management to Event Producers and leading advance planning on Global Esports Events (e.g., League Worlds and MSI, VAL Masters and Champs), as well as collaboration as needed with the regional leagues (e.g., LCS, LEC), across the Esports pillar, a fast-growing division at Riot started in 2009, with ~5x growth in fans over the last 7-8 years. The division currently spans five games, thousands of professional players, over 100M fans across the globe. The Sr. Manager, Global Esports Events is responsible for working with the Lead Event Producers and Product Leads to understand strategy and align on global event locations, lead venue analysis, evaluate production feasibility and present implications for events 1-3 years away. In this role, working with the Director, Global Events Producers, you will build and maintain relationships with venues, cities and government partners in addition to internal stakeholders that drive location decisions.  You will also be responsible for managing the Lead Event Producers, providing craft expertise and coaching, resource allocation and personal development.  This role will report to the Director of Global Esports Events Producers and will collaborate as needed on executive presentations and department programs as well as tactically be able to cover as an Executive Producer when needed to support the team

Responsibilities

  • Directly lead advance and multi-year planning of a global event portfolio, including but not limited to: strategy and goals, locations & city bidding.  Additional support as needed on creative vision, broadcast, ceremonies, ticket sales, and more.
  • Develop and manage a highly-functional producing team, fostering a positive and healthy environment. Assess headcount needs, resources and allocation, develop and performance manage individuals on the team. Provide strategic direction and coaching support on the business of live events to the team.
  • Partner with Production & Production Finance to conduct feasibility assessments including forecasting for events using historical data and bottom-up estimation based on the scope & priorities, location, and complexity of the shows. 
  • Collaborate and drive initiatives with Riot esports teams such as Operations, Business Development, Partnerships, Entertainment, and Publishing in the planning of events and ad-hoc projects.
  • Manage and maintain senior relationships across Riot Games for collaboration across events and the event portfolio.
  • Work with lead producers to provide context, recommendations, and analysis around event decisions to leadership.
  • Create and develop relationships with the industry, including creative agencies, venues, city relations, vendors and freelancers, and manage multiple vendors and partners through the execution of our events.
  • When needed, become operationally involved in events to ensure successful delivery of events.  Support the team in execution and provide craft expertise within the Esports Event Producer function

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in live event production.
  • Experience in leadership positions, guiding teams through the execution of live events, music tours, shows, TV or film productions.
  • Experience with large-scale events for 5,000+ attendees in major markets/arenas worldwide.
  • Experience managing complex venue and city relations, location scouting, and contracting.
  • Experience with scenario planning and distilling complex information for executive review and presentations.
  • Hands-on experience as an Executive Producer, with a solid background in events strategy, events production, and creative executions.
  • 3+ years of experience as a people manager.
  • Must have a valid passport and be able to travel globally; 30-40% anticipated travel for scouting, city selection, and event support.

Desired Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in live event production.
  • 5+ years of experience as a people manager.
  • 5+ years of experience with events broadcast and the complexity of a live event that is also being broadcast globally
  • Experience working in multiple regions worldwide (EMEA, APAC, Americas) and the nuances, requirements, and restrictions to producing events in each region.
  • Understanding of economic impact studies, potential tax rebates, and incentive structures for live events
