THE ROLE:

You will be responsible for developing a highly talented Firmware/BIOS Customer Engineering team and enabling them to resolve multi-disciplinary customer issues across a variety of SoC products in various embedded market segments. You will closely partner with internal teams to understand the design and architecture, use-cases and implementation details and then enable the customers in applying the right platform solution into their differentiated innovative products.

 

THE PERSON:

AMD is looking for an experienced candidate to take-up an exciting hands-on leadership role of managing the platform applications/systems engineering hardware team in Austin and work on bleeding-edge technologies. This role is customer facing role and the individual should be passionate about customer success and tackling complex customer technical problems by driving the right solutioning with high sense of urgency and engineering leadership.

 

The direct results and impact of your work will be seen in customer successes as they launch their products in the market which in turn brings business growth to the business unit and matter of great pride to you and your team.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Hands-on Engineering leadership in building and developing a highly talented and productive team of firmware engineers as a part of hardware platform systems and customer engineering.
  • Tacking complex system level technical problems requiring debug leadership of a virtual cross-functional task force, brainstorming ideas/hypotheses, prioritization calls, insightful connecting-the-dots and overall driving the best approach of debugging for fast results.
  • Doing deep-dive technical discussions, presentations, problem-and-solution summarization, trade-off analysis etc. with customers and aligning on all around win-win solutions in tough problems.
  • Authoring and producing good documentation for the customers or internal teams on “How-To” application notes, performance analysis, etc.
  • Talent management and people leadership, attraction and hiring of high caliber talent, mentorship, actioning performance improvement cases as they occur, mentoring and guiding team members, skills development and coaching etc.

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Extensive hands-on and broad engineering leadership experience in low-level x86 platform Firmware/BIOS design and validation functions. UEFI, Coreboot, EDKII etc.
  • Hands-on senior level people leadership experience managing a team size of 5 or more experienced engineers.
  • Previous experience with system architecture, design, and debug of silicon/IP (x86) platforms
  • Very strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Very good knowledge of the industry standard buses and protocols like PCIe, Ethernet, USB, SATA, I2C, SPI etc.
  • Experience in the networking, storage, or automotive markets
  • Agile and adaptable to changing customer requirements with ability to scope the work and drive closure with great sense of urgency.
  • Excellent communication skills with an entrepreneurial spirit to produce results. Ability to handle customer communication and leadership in driving consensus among stakeholders.
  • Experience working with AMD products and technology 

 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • BS or higher in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
