Job Description


AMD’s embedded business unit is looking for strong operations program manager for the R&D organization.  R&D operations include all aspects of budget roll-ups, tracking and attainment, planning and tracking capex, labor headcount and $ tracking/planning, long-range and annual operations planning. This is an individual contributor role and requires excellent organization skills, number crunching and data interpretation skills as well as great interpersonal skills. This position reports into head of engineering and program management and based out of Austin TX as preferred location with Santa Clara CA as second preferred.


Role & Responsibilities:


  • Lead the R&D operations role for the business unit with in-depth understanding of the corporate and department R&D processes and timelines.
  • Create right templates for data gathering from engineering leaders and program managers and generate consolidated reports with insightful analysis and executive updates.
  • Drive regular cadence of operational items due for various reviews and represent embedded R&D team in various corporate forums and processes.
  • Drive the R&D opex modelling and attainment with finance team and engineering leaders to make sure full consolidated tracking of the overall spend as well as achieve 100% opex attainment every quarter.
  • Own and drive the corporate project-based accounting process with accurate and timely data population meeting all the key deadlines.  
  • Participate or drive the forums with various central engineering organization and corresponding finance teams to upfront align on the cross charges and track those diligently.
  • Prepare and manage the labor headcount and $s for hiring reviews as well as overall diligent tracking.
  • Drive the data gathering and consolidation for the annual operating plan across the engineering organization and prepare bottoms-up roll-ups with different parametric views to scrutinize data for key insights.
  • Run the monthly engineering ops reviews and consolidate key uplevelled reporting items for further BU level reporting.
  • Help in planning and organizing the engineering leadership all-hands and offsites with critical agenda driven from the top challenges to focus on.
  • Create, establish and continuously improve the R&D operations processes with the goal to continued high-rigor and discipline in all aspects of operations which in turn enabled strong execution.
  • Help the executive team in rolling-out and operationalization of key initiatives.
  • Drive cross functional alignment among different teams including the other program managers.
  • Share best practices with other operations organizations and incorporate any learnings from them as well for continuous improvement.




  • Engineering degree preferred in EE or CS with 15+ years of overall experience and 4+ yrs of experience in R&D operations role (experience in BU engineering operations role will be a big plus).
  • Strong program management skills including familiarity with latest tools and great excel mastery.
  • Familiarity with R&D budgeting process and long-range as well as annual planning process.
  • Experience in finance discipline will be plus.
  • Experience working in a multisite and multi-cultural environment and ability to travel as needed.
  • Team player with passion and hunger to do whatever it takes for business success.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent skills of managing up with right set of data/reports to executives for visibility and decision making.
    • Ability to align, resolve conflicts and build consensus among parties working towards the final goal.
    • High sense of urgency, discipline and drive for results.
    • Relentless focus on operational excellence.
