SENIOR SYSTEMS DESIGN ENGINEER
THE ROLE:
The System Software, Integration & Validation group plays a key role in the development of test systems and hardware for test & characterization of our advanced device families. Our most recent project has been for the ground-breaking Versal Adaptable Computing Acceleration Platform (ACAP), with quad core ARM processing system and programmable logic.
THE PERSON:
The ideal candidate possesses a problem-solving mindset with a drive to learn about both hardware and software technologies. A successful candidate will employ these skills to develop driver-level C code, debug failures across software, hardware, and solutions, and drive these issues to resolution by working with other teams.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
We are looking for a Sr. Systems Design Engineer to join the System-level Test team in San Jose. You will be involved in the silicon life cycle from testing of emulated next-generation RTL through to silicon validation. You will have a view of the full system but also will become an expert in certain IP down to the register-level. We are looking for someone who can span the range of able to develop device drivers in software to debug on hardware.
You will be working on the future versions of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Engine system level validation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Driving technical innovation to improve AMD’s capabilities across validation, including tool and script development, technical and procedural methodology enhancement, and various internal and cross-functional technical initiatives.
- Debugging issues found during the process, bring-up, validation, and production phases of SOC programs.
- Working with multiple teams, and tracking test execution to make sure all features are validated and optimized on time.
- Working closely with supporting technical teams to drive system-level bugs to resolution.
- Engaging in other software/hardware modeling frameworks
- Design, develop, implement, test, and verify systems based on AMD/Xilinx FPGAs with embedded MicroBlaze or ARM processors.
- Provide feedback on architecture, use cases, IP design, tools, and documentation.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Programming/scripting skills (e.g. C/C++, Perl, Python)
- Experience with Executing and Monitoring Regression Test suite and reporting the failures through Automation.
- Experience with common lab equipment, including protocol/logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc.
- Knowledge of system architecture, technical debug, and validation strategy
- Experience understanding system use cases, determining requirements, and writing test specifications.
- Experience with embedded systems and ARM or MicroBlaze architecture and assembly language.
- Experience with modules (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet, SD, GPU, DMA, PCIe etc.) validation is a plus
- Emulation/FPGA platform experience is a plus
- Experience creating designs in Vivado tool is a plus
- Machine Learning experience is a plus
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in electrical or computer engineering
