The Opportunity

The Unity Engine is used by millions of creators around the world to build engaging real-time experiences for a variety of target platforms. On the Platform Ecosystem team, we are working to ensure that our engine evolves to manage the complexity of a growing ecosystem of innovative platforms, store fronts, and distribution channels. We are looking for an experienced engineer to help us transform the way in which Unity models platforms. Doing this is a complex undertaking that will lay the foundations for a modular architecture that will enable Unity to support platforms at scale.

We expect that you’ll bring your critical thinking and collaboration skills to our small but growing team. Our mission demands that we reconsider all aspects of platforms as they are today—radical thinking is welcome! You will likely know something about a number of areas such as interface abstraction, API design and lifecycles, compiler pipelines, performance, and scalability, and a lot about some of them. Your work will include collaboration with the broader team to help guide architectural decisions, as well as partner and customer interaction.

What you’ll be doing

• Exploring the Unity code base to become familiar with how platforms are implemented today
• Designing and prototyping key advances in how platforms will be implemented tomorrow
• Writing fast and maintainable code to help move our codebase to a new paradigm
• Bringing your experience and architectural knowledge to an exciting set of problems

• A forward-looking mentality that cares about scale, performance, and cost of ownership
• Advanced C++/C# development experience
• Ability to design, communicate, and deliver on large-scale software projects

• Experience with game engine code
• Experience using the Unity Editor
• Experience with compilers and build systems
• Experience designing and building distributed software systems

Additional information

Gross base salary (USD): $161,200 - $218,100

*Note: Certain locations require a good faith disclosure of the base salary range for the role. The actual salary for the successful candidate may differ based on location, experience, and other job-related factors.
