Staff Technical Writer

 

THE ROLE:

This role's main objective is to create and transform our internal engineering-centric documents for external consumptions.

 

Through ensuring easy access & improving the ability to consume and understand our technologies, this role will allow for an increased pace of onboarding and adopting our solutions both internally and for customers/partners.

 

Helping us translate complex technology concepts into digestible reading that does not lose its essence in written and/or video format. Further, you will craft customer facing technical documents, enabling quick uptake of our products and technologies in the hands of our clients.

 

In this position, you will be working as a member of a high-performing team, which will have you working with teams across multiple sites. 

 

THE PERSON: 

 

AMD is seeking a talented and experienced Technical Writer in semiconductor industries who will be our knowledge manager to join our Data Center GPU team.  The role requires a high degree of drive and communication skills to ensure the team members, internal & external customers, have a fast turnaround for onboarding our technologies. The right candidate must be adept in clarifying technical information, making it easily consumed and accessed.

 

The successful candidate will not only provide hands-on technical writing contribution to DCG (Data Center Group) but also create the right documentation structures for DCG to share information efficiently. They must be meticulous in their daily work, have effective communication skills and be steadfast in their beliefs on quality documentation.  They will work with developers, architects, QA, and DevOps personnel effectively across organizations within and outside of AMD. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Craft customer facing technical documents to enable quick uptake of our products and technologies in the hands of our clients
  • Knowledge manager to support all  technologies in information sharing and fast onboarding
  • Plan and create content to better support program delivery and customer acceptance
  • Edit and proofread documents written by others and coach non-writers to improve their writing skills
  • Reviewing & updating our documentation storage and access structure to improve efficiency
  • Reviewing & updating our documentation templates and setting expectation for each type of document
  • Setting and monitoring KPI (Key Performance Indicators) metrics to gauge the quality and completeness of documentation to better understand, isolate and fix documentation related issues
  • Evaluating and implementing documentation sharing solutions including access control as needed
  • Working with Technical Program Managers and Managers for all programs to understand the documentation gaps

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Hands-on and supervising role of technical writing experience in a fast-paced semiconductor industry
  • Direct working experiences in computer vision, AI (Artificial Intelligence), ML (Machine Learning), and graphics preferred
  • Experience in working with worldwide teams and gathering information from subject matter experts
  • Able to create content from scratch and architect information sharing solutions
  • Able to provide a portfolio of writing samples for review
  • Ability to quickly learn new and existing technologies
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and writing skills
  • Background in computer science

 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS: 

Bachelor's degree (or equivalent)
