THE ROLE:

The mission of AMD’s Tax Department is to enhance shareholder value by minimizing AMD's tax burden through timely and effective tax planning and compliance, along with successful audit resolutions resulting in improved cash flow and increased Earnings Per Share

As AMD’s Director of Tax Planning, you will be responsible for the development and execution of AMD’s tax global planning strategies from start to finish. You’ll be part of a dynamic organization and will have the opportunity to make your mark on the company’s long-range financial strategy.

THE PERSON:

This leader will develop strategic initiatives to optimize the company’s effective tax rate, US and International short and long-term cash tax profile.  Success in this role is dependent on application of expertise gained through Big 4 and industry experience, demonstrated strong leadership, effective communication, hands-on approach, and ability to drive process improvements. The right individual will possess strengths in strong tactical execution, strategic understanding, and ability to perform in a high growth business environment while gaining the respect and trust of business partners.  This position will report to the VP, Head of Tax.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide exemplar leadership and business acumen, as a tone-setting senior member of the tax leadership team.
  • Develop strategies to optimize FDII, GILTI, subpart-F positions, among others
  • Monitor legislative changes in US and foreign tax laws that may impact the Company’s tax positions.
    Perform benchmarking exercises with peer companies.
  • Identify and develop tax planning strategies to respond to US and international legislative dynamics and lead the implementation efforts or large-scare projects.
  • Direct the research, analysis and modeling of the impact of tax developments in support of tax strategies.
    Support tax planning activities in non-US geographies as needed including working with colleagues and tax advisors in local countries.
  • Clearly and effectively communicate tax planning opportunities, consequences of legislative changes to senior leaders.
  • Partner closely with greater finance stakeholders, including Accounting, Legal, Treasury and Corporate Financial Planning.
  • Partner with teams responsible for global transfer pricing strategy, policies and intercompany operations
    Collaborate with US international compliance and US GAAP provision teams and provide guidance as needed.
  • Advise as needed on the US international tax aspects of IRS audits and certain foreign country local tax audits.
  • Advise on strategy to manage ongoing US tax controversy matters, including strategic collaboration with external advisors.
  • Function as lead tax advisor on new business models, mergers and acquisitions, as well as general enterprise initiatives.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Progressive experience in the field, combined law firm/Big4 consulting experience as well as industry experience with large multi-nationals.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills with ability to interact professionally with a wide-ranging and diverse audience.
  • Focus on process improvement to mitigate risk and add value.
  • Proactive and visible work style and takes ownership and responsibility for assigned responsibilities.
  • Excellent time and project management, and execution skills.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

JD, CPA, Master of Taxation or other advanced degree preferred.
