Board Verification and Automation Engineer-Data Center GPU

THE ROLE

AMD is transitioning to a model that focuses more on system and solution level definition vs. the prior model of designing GPU or GPU modules for consumption by Server OEM/ODM partners.  In the new model AMD will continuing developing industry leading GPU and GPU modules while also partnering with the Server OEM, ODMs, and CSPs on system and solution level designs and architectures.

THE PERSON:

To support this new model, AMD is looking for a front-line interface to ODMs for AMD modules/systems/solutions.  AMD is looking for someone that has extensive thermal development experience working with the ODMs.  Ability to think beyond thermal and mechanical piece, feel for systems and solutions.  Able to give first level feedback on concepts, designs, protos - identifying issues early in the cycle.  Ability to review designs and provide input on issues beyond thermal that might come up later (e.g. mechanical, serviceability, etc.).  The role will involve leading efforts on derivative designs of existing modules or systems.  Thermal lead will leverage design skills to drive derivative SKUs to launch.  Candidate will work directly with Taiwan thermal suppliers on technology development and optimization.  Candidate must have excellent communication skills - need to know what you should vs. shouldn't say to customers.  Ability to make decisions without 100% of the data (e.g. what if we only have 40% of the data) - ability to leverage experience to make a risk call, comfortable when being put on the spot.  Not stressed if they get pressed by VP locally.  Target 15-20 years of experience minimum.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Server as primary local interface to ODM and Asia based thermal vendors for AMD modules/systems/solutions.
  • Establish relationship with ODM and thermal vendors to help drive AMD architecture and component requirements into product and solution designs.
  • Be active in engagements with ODM and thermal vendors to identify issues and risks early in the design process.
  • Perform vendor and ODM site audits, reviewing facilities, capabilities, processes in support of current and future AMD development or manufacturing activities.
  • The role will involve leading efforts on derivative designs of existing modules or systems.  Thermal lead will leverage design skills to drive derivative SKUs to launch.
  • Candidate will work directly with Taiwan ODMs and thermal suppliers on technology development and optimization.
  • Candidate must have excellent communication skills for communication both with Asia ODMs and vendors and North America based teams.
  • Background in server development with emphasis on thermal engineering at component, module, system, and rack level
  • Experience with CFD tools such as Icepak, Flotherm, 6-Sigma, FloEFD.
  • History working with Asia fan, heatsink, thermal solution vendors.
  • History working with ODMs on server development or JDM models.
  • Experience with manufacturing environment and design for manufacturing, quality, reliability.
  • Solid years of experience in Server Level Thermal Engineering/Development/Design

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
