Underpinning our mission is the AMD culture. We push the limits of innovation to solve the world’s most important challenges. We strive for execution excellence while being direct, humble, collaborative, and inclusive of diverse perspectives.

AMD together we advance_

THE ROLE:

As a CPU Core Microcode Engineer, you will have the unique opportunity to design a functional unit in AMD’s next-generation core. You will be part of an experienced, skilled, and motivated engineering team with a proven track record of success. As a member of the Core Architecture/RTL team, you will work on cutting-edge processor technology and collaborate with the Performance Modeling, Design Verification, and Post-Silicon Teams to realize AMD’s ambitious future CPU roadmap.

THE PERSON:

You approach challenges relentlessly with both critical thinking and creativity. You work as part of

a team with strong communication and collaboration skills. You have a solid understanding of

modern CPU architecture and have ideas and/or drive to make it even better. Does this describe

you? If so, then join us!

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and code RTL and/or Microcode for CPU cores.
  • Utilize your understanding of X86 architecture and assembly to design CPU core features.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software engineers to define high-level architecture.
  • Participate in defining the microarchitecture of next-generation high-performance processor cores.
  • Contribute to design verification, performance verification, synthesis, power reduction, timing convergence, and floorplan efforts.
  • Assist with silicon debug and product support as needed.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong understanding of X86 architecture, ISA, and X86 assembly coding.
  • Experience with Verilog RTL development in a CPU, SOC, or ASIC environment.
  • Expertise in processor architecture, including high-performance out-of-order processor architecture.
  • Proficiency in logic design and RTL/Microcode coding for high-speed processors.
  • Working knowledge of programming languages such as C/C++.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages like Perl, Python, Ruby, Shell, and/or TCL.
  • Knowledge of power-saving and energy-efficient design techniques.
  • Exposure to physical design and verification methods.
  • Ability to work with performance teams to debug and fix performance issues.
  • Understanding of synthesis, place and route, and timing closure concepts.
  • Experience from clean-sheet design to product tapeout to post-silicon debug.
  • Proven experience with microarchitecture development, as demonstrated by patents, publications, or product features.
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills in both pre- and post-silicon environments.
  • Background in other aspects of ASIC implementation, especially with synthesis flow and static timing analysis.
  • Knowledge of microprocessor Design-for-Test (DFT) and Design-for-Debug (DFD) logic and issues.
  • Experience with clocking, reset, power-up sequences, and power management.
  • Familiarity with x86 or ARM Architecture (ISA).

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • BS, MS, or PhD degree in Electrical, Computer Engineering, or related field of study.
