The opportunity

Unity is looking for a Senior Employment Counsel to lead and advise on North America-specific employment issues for the company. This role sits within the Corporate Legal team and reports directly to the Sr. Director of Employment, ER, and Compliance. You will work cross-functionally with the global People team and senior business leaders to advise on all legal aspects of the employee lifecycle while also creating scalable employment policies, processes, templates, and training. We are looking for a strategic thinker who understands the business implications of legal decisions, and is able to autonomously prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. We are looking for an attorney with significant California and US federal employment law experience, who has also advised on Canadian employment issues.

What you'll be doing

  • Day-to-day advice and counseling on a range of employment law issues, including recruiting, hiring, compensation and benefits, termination, diversity and inclusion, Employee Relations investigations, employee privacy, leaves of absence, contingent workforce, and litigation
  • Work with local HR partners and local counsel to draft and review US and Canada-related agreements, letters, policies, and templates.
  • Collaborate with Unity’s UK-based Senior Employment Counsel, EMEA and APAC Lead, to develop and refine globally scalable employment processes, policies, training, and strategies that balance business needs with risk mitigation.
  • Partner with our People Compliance team to ensure Unity’s compliance with local reporting regulations, including EEO-1, AAP, and other local and federal requirements
  • Work with senior business partners and outside counsel on litigation and special projects, including M&A, location and entity evaluations, workforce management, and business organization

What we're looking for

  • An attorney with a JD from an accredited law school who possesses in-depth knowledge of California and US federal employment laws and some experience advising on issues in Canada.
  • Ability to draft documents, policies, and messages in a clear, concise, and digestible manner for business partners
  • Comfort autonomously prioritizing deliverables in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment
  • High level of comfort working with technology, such as Google Drive, Excel, Powerpoint, Slack, etc.
  • May require some travel
