We’re Criterion, and we love making games!

For more than fifteen years we’ve entertained millions of players around the world with our award-winning games. Our accomplished people have expressed their passion for outstanding game feel, AAA audiovisual quality and technical innovation in the Burnout and Need for Speed series and more recently in Battlefield 1, Star Wars X-Wing VR, Starfighter Assault and Arcade for Star Wars Battlefront II and Firestorm for Battlefield V.

We believe that healthy, engaged teams make great games, so we place enormous value on collaboration, fresh ideas, and unique perspectives. We’d love to hear yours! Crunch doesn’t help make a better game, so we don’t do it. For the past three years we are very proud to have been recognised by gamesindustry.biz as one of the best places to work in the UK. Let’s talk about how you could be a part of it.

What a UI Software Engineer does at Criterion:

We’re looking for an engineer to join our experienced User Interface Team.

Our UI/UX team oversees the presentation and framing of the game, building all the menus and in-game feedback systems, and connecting the game’s features together into a consistent and exciting experience for our players. You’ll work on things like extending our car customisation flows, generating maps, implementing new rendering techniques for our HUD elements, improving workflows and bringing it all together to achieve a bold and stimulating vision.

The Software Engineers on the team work with our artists, designers, and scripters to guarantee that they have the tools needed to build content, optimising to ensure that the end result runs smoothly and ultimately delivering the best possible game into our player’s hands. Criterion works in cross-discipline groups so you can also expect to work with people in other areas such as our audio, online and gameplay teams, building on and adding to technology used by other leading EA titles.

You will need:

  • Experience of C++ or C# programming
  • Experience creating games or prototypes in a modern game engine (e.g. Unreal or Unity)
  • An understanding of game UI, and a passion to create great player experiences

What’s in it for you? Glad you asked!
